Project overview

A coastal guesthouse organized around shade, water, and tactile local materials.

01 / Challenge

Reading the constraints before drawing the form.

A fragmented coastal property needed to become an intimate guesthouse without losing its mature gardens, inherited stone walls, or sense of domestic scale.

02 / Design response

Architecture shaped by place, use, and longevity.

Guest rooms gather around three shaded courtyards linked by a sequence of arches, water, and filtered thresholds. New work remains quiet beside the existing masonry.

Material palette

A restrained palette with depth and permanence.

Marés limestone, lime plaster, terracotta, bronze, linen, and reclaimed pine.

Measured outcome

Performance that can be felt and quantified.

The completed retreat accommodates 22 guests while keeping 78% of the existing structure and all significant trees on the site.
